Sustainable Livelihood through Aquaculture Farming and Production in Coastal Kendrapada District, Odisha

The village had a number of unused ponds. The ponds need to be renovated to raise fish. However, rural poor villagers cannot utilize it for aquaculture farming due to lack of exposure and knowledge. The villagers are unable to renovate their existing ponds despite the fact that freshwater aquaculture resources offer enormous potential for augmenting fish production in the area. The mobilization of farmers for aquaculture farming, the use of appropriate technologies for aquaculture farming and fish seed production and implementation of a financial support system are all necessary for pond renovation, which can result in substantial increase in aquaculture production and income in the selected villages in 3 to 5 years. Therefore, providing the villagers with training on management of ponds and raising fish for livelihood is very essential for initiating aquaculture.
